An husband and wife were killed when their vehicle hit a road side tree here today, police said.
Ramanathagurukkal and wife Kumuda, residents of Punnainellur in Tanjavur district, were coming to the city in connection with the marraige of their son in a car, when the driver lost control dashed against a tree.
While the husband died on the spot, the passersby rushed Kumuda and the driver Senthil to the Government Hospital.
However, the woman died on admission, they said.
In another accident, a lorry driver was killed when the vehicle fell into a 60-foot deep gorge at an hairpin bend on Kotagiri Road, near Mettupalayam, about 45 KMs from here this morning.
The iron-rod-laden lorry was coming from Hosur, when the mishap occurred and the driver Murugeshan died on the spot.
