Three killed, two hurt in road accident

Three people, including a journalist, were killed and two others injured when their SUV rammed into a stationary tractor in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, police said today.

"The incident occurred on Saturday late night near Bonda village on Sariya Baramkela road leaving three people dead and two others including the driver injured," Raigarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Bhagat told PTI.

While the victims were going to attend a marriage function at Bonda from Raigarh, the driver of the SUV failed to notice a stationary tractor parked on the roadside. As a result, the vehicle rammed into the tractor resulting in the death of three people on the spot, police said.
 

The deceased have been identified as - Basant Malakar (32), a journalist of Dainik Bhaskar Hindi daily at Raigarh, Surendra Sidar (33) and Sandeep Sidar (25), the SP said.

The injured were admitted in Raigarh district hospital where their condition was stated to be critical, he said.

A case has been registered against the driver of the SUV while further investigation was on, he added.
