Three members of a family, including a 12-year old girl, were killed and two others were seriously injured when bombs stockpiled in a house exploded at Gosaba in Sunderbans under South 24 Parganas district today.

A senior police officer said the crude bombs, kept in the kitchen of one Anwar Laskar's house, suddenly burst blowing off the tiled roof and the house collapsed under the impact.

The victims, sitting in the courtyard, were later rescued by locals but three of them, including Anwar's 12-year old daughter Salma, were declared dead at the local health centre.

The two injured children - Telima Laskar (15) and Nazma Laskar (7) - were in serious condition, the officer said adding both of them were also daughters of Anwar who was absconding.

The two other deceased were Abu Taher (20) and Mohidul Laskar (35), the officer said.

Trinamool Congress MLA of Gosaba, Jayanta Naskar confirmed the incident and said he would visit the village, which fell under Sunderbans area.

The officer said police were investigating why the bombs were stocked in the house and if any group was involved.
