The Bihar Police today arrested three alleged Maoists from a village under Kathaiya police station in Muzaffarpur district and recovered two pistols and ammunition from them.

Three others accompanying them managed to escape leaving behind four motorcycles, police officers said.

Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jitendra Rana said the arrests were made on the basis of intelligence inputs.

"Altogether six persons were travelling on four motorcycles. They were stopped by the police at Sirsiya Chowk under Kathaiya police station for checking. They tried to escape but the police personnel nabbed three of them," said the SSP.

Rana also said the arrested Maoists used to extort money from contractors and businessmen in the name of 'levy' and were active in the district for a long time.

The police is interrogating the arrested persons at present and trying to nab the others who fled.

Incidentally, the Maoists today started their 10-day establishment day celebrations, though there were no reports of any untoward incident in the state so far.
