Three Maoists surrender

Three hardcore Maoists, carrying rewards on their heads, today surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district.

The three, allegedly involved in around 30 cases of various crimes including murder and landmine blasts, decided to give up arms with a desire to return to the mainstream, Malkangiri Supertendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.

The rebels included two women.

While one woman cadre carried a reward of Rs four lakh on her head, the other two carried rewards of Rs one lakh each, he said.

The three Maoists told the police that the rebels had deviated from their ideology and were indulging in harassment and torture of poor tribals.
