Three members of a family were seriously injured when the private tutor of the children allegedly attacked them with a sharp weapon and iron rod at Sundargarh in Odisha, police said today.
In the incident last night the accused, a 22-year-old private tutor went to the house of Manoj Patel at Rangadhipa and attacked his daughter, mother and son.
The accused first attacked Patel's 16-year-old daughter, whom he was earlier teaching, with a sharp weapon. When she cried for help, her grand mother tried to defend her and the attacker hit her with an iron rod, police said.

When the 12-year-old brother of the girl tried to help, the private tutor attacked him too with a sharp weapon. He then made his escape brandishing his weapon as several people had assembled near the house after hearing the shouts for help, the police said.
Search is on to trace the accused and investigation is in progress, Inspector In-Charge of Sundergarh Town Police Station, Pradip Jena said.
Condition of all the injured persons who were admitted to hospital is stated to be stable, he said.
The house owner, who was away in Delhi with his wife and elder daughter, is rushing back to Sundergarh on being informed of the incident.
