Three men decamp with consignment worth Rs 30 lakh

Three persons, including driver of a trailer van, allegedly decamped with a consignment of granules worth Rs 30 lakh from JNPT port here, police said today.

According to police, driver of a trailer van (large vehicle use to carry consignments from ports) and two others allegedly decamped with a consignment of 20-tonne granules from JNPT port on August 28, which was to be delivered at Bhiwandi here and demanded Rs 2 lakh from transport owner to release it.

A payment of Rs 1 lakh was made from owner Balu Ghatge end and half the amount was remaining, but the consignment was not released, following which the owner registered a complaint here yesterday, police inspector (Crime), Bhiwandi B S Bhudwant said.
 

Police has launched a hunt against driver, identified as Sanjay Kumar Yadav and his aides Bimlesh and Guddu Chowdhary, they said, adding, some more persons are also suspected to be involved in it.

A case has been registered against the trio under IPC section 407 (criminal breach of trust by carrier) and section 384 rw 34.
