With the three accepting their guilt, Metropolitan Magistrate Sandeep Garg convicted them of theft but showed leniency to them in sentencing saying they have been in jail for quite some time after their arrest for stealing the phone.
The offence of theft entails three years' jail term on conviction.
The three South Delhi residents - Pradeep, Charan Singh and Vishnu, after accepting that they had stolen complainant Jaidev Singh's phone, had also sought leniency.
"Considering the socio-economic condition of the convicts and the fact that they have families to look after and they are in custody for quite some time, they are sentenced to rigorous imprisonment till December 31," the court said.
