Three Myanmar fishermen were today rescued by local fishermen from a boat that was drifting near Nagapattinam coast, police said.
Fishermen of Kameshwaram coastal village in Nagapattinam spotted the bamboo boat, approximately 35 ft long and 15 ft wide, about 500m from the coast, and three persons in it, police said.
They rescued the trio and handed them over to police. Meanwhile, another group of fishermen brought the bamboo boat to the shore.

The three persons, who were rescued, claimed they belonged to Myanmar and had ventured into the sea for fishing and the boat drifted due to a cyclonic storm, police said.
Officials of coast guard, coastal security group, fisheries department and intelligence wing are examining the boat, sources said.
On Sunday, a similar boat was found near Kodiakarai coast. However, that bamboo boat was unmanned.
