Some trees were being felled at Senthankudi for railway overbridge construction work and workers noticed a palm civet with three new borns in a tree.

However, the mother civet fled on seeing the workers.

Forest officials on being informed rescued the new born civets and brought them to the Sirkazhi Veterinary Hospital.

A medical team provided first-aid to the civets.

The veterinarians have advised proper care for a minimum period of 45 days, after which they can be released into the forests. Till then, the new borns will be provided with Glucose and milk by the forest department officials.

Civets are harmless creatures that feed on fruits. They usually take shelter in big trees that are located away from human habitation.

However, when they inhabit trees near human habitation, they prove to be a nuisance as they make a loud noise during night hours as they are nocturnal.
