Three of family sentenced in dowry death case

A court here sentenced three members of a family to varying jail terms of up to 10 years in connection with a 2013 dowry death case.

Additional District Judge K K Asthana yesterday convicted the victim's husband Rajesh Sahu, father-in-law Moolchand and mother-in-law Prema Devi in the dowry death case of Archana in in September 2013.

According to the prosecution, the body of the victim was found hanging from the ceiling in Mataudh town following which her father filed a dowry death case against the convicts.

After hearing both the sides, the court awarded 10 years of imprisonment to Rajesh and seven years each to the in-laws, Assistant Government Counsel Moolchandra Kushwaha said.
 

The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them.
