Three juveniles, who are part of the 'Tyre Puncture Group' of Madangir in Delhi, were arrested today when they were about to target a few more vehicles and police recovered three kilograms of gold bar diamond jewellery, 25 live cartridges of 7.65 bore and a motorcycle from them.

Acting on a specific tip off that the gang was involved in a number of such incidents, police laid a trap and apprehended all the three juveniles when they reached there on a Scooty with stolen gold pieces and gold jewellery.

During enquiry, it was revealed that the gold and jewellery was stolen from the Jagat Puri in Delhi

"Subsequently, all three juveniles were apprehended by the Juvenile Welfare Officer of Saket Police Station," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said.

Explaining the group's modus operandi, the police said that initially, they used to identify the vehicle in which bag wad kept on the side seat of driver or on the rear seat and driver would be alone.

"Then, they would puncture the tyre of the targeted vehicle with a sharp edge instrument or by throwing the sharp edge instruments of iron on the road when the driver stopped his vehicle at the red light. They would follow the targeted vehicle and would inform the driver that the tyre of his vehicle has been punctured," Sharma said.

One of the members of their group used to steal the bag containing cash and other valuables from the vehicle while other members were diverting the attention of driver on the pretext of helping him change the tyre.

This group has its network throughout Delhi and NCR and has been involved in more than 20 cases of bag-lifting and theft.

Further investigation of the case is in progress and efforts are being made to effect more recoveries and to identify their other associates.
