Three people killed by wild tuskers in Odisha

Three persons, including a couple, were killed by elephants in two separate incidents in Odisha's Keonjhar district, police said today.

Purna Mahanta and his wife Abanti Mohanta of village Sitarampur were sleeping in a paddy field when the jumbo trampled them to death last night, said Padmanava Nayak, Inspector-In-Charge of Baria police station.

In another incident, a pachyderm attacked and killed Laxmidhar Giri near a brick kiln in nearby Chakulia village, the IIC said.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem to Champua sub-divisional hospital.

Rs 10,000 each was provided by forest authorities for cremation of the deceased, he said.
