Three persons were today convicted by a court here in connection with the killing of 16-year-old student Rajib Das for trying to protect his sister from getting molested by drunken goons four years ago.

First Additional District judge Prabir Kumar Mishra convicted Biswanath Chatterjee, Mithun Das and Monojit Biswas under sections 302(punishment for murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and section 25 of Arms Act.

The quantum of punishment will be announced tomorrow.

"We were waiting for this day. We are happy. We want them to be hanged," Rajib's sister said outside the court room.

The brutal murder of the boy had taken place on the night of February 14, 2011 at Kachhari Maidan in Barasat, the district headquarters of North 24-Parganas.

Rajib was accompanying his elder sister, who was returning from her workplace in Kolkata, to their Banamalipur residence from Barasat railway station around 11.30 PM while the drunken goons tried to molest her at Kacchari Maidan, an area dotted with bungalows and offices of top district administrative officials such as DM, ADM, SP and ASP.

Post-mortem report had later revealed that Rajib was stabbed at least 17 times.
