Three policemen, arrested in connection with the alleged custodial torture and sexual assault of a woman in Udumalpet, were remanded and lodged in the Central Jail here today.

The sleuths of CBI Special Crime Branch had arrested Sub-Inspector, Vijay Kumar and constables Tilak Kumar and Ranganayagam, attached to Udumalpet police station in nearby Tirupur District last night.

After interrogating 10 police officials, three were arrested, in connection with the case, in which a woman, suspected to have murdered her land lady, was arrested in August 2014.

Though the woman was taken into custody on the night of August 11, 2014, the arrest was shown after three days, during which she was reportedly tortured and raped, by some policemen in the station.

The case was handed over to CBI by the Madras HIgh Court, after the woman's daughter filed a petition there.

CBI had registered a case of custodial rape against seven police personnel in October last year.

The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded to custody, till November 11.
