Three policemen were suspended today for allegedly manhandling a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, who protested against a man for smoking on a bus.

The incident took place last night when a senior RSS worker Govind Raikwar was on a bus from Panna to Simaria and one Bhagwan Das Pandey who was seated next to him began smoking a bidi.

Raikwar asked Pandey to stop smoking but when the latter refused, the former snatched the bidi from the latter's mouth and threw it away, a police official said.

The incident led to a verbal duel between them. After the bus reached Amaanganj, Pandey went to the local police station and filed a report against Raikwar.

Head constable Rajendra Singh summoned Raikwar to the police station through constables Ajesh and Anil Yadav, but the RSS worker refused to go with them after which they beat him up.

Later, RSS and Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest before the police station, demanding action against the policemen.

Panna Superintendent of Police (SP) I P Arjaria directed a case of manhandling to be registered against the three policemen and suspended them.
