Mizoram Home Minister R Lalzirliana today said three policemen of the first battalion of the India Reserved Police (IRP) were suspended after they indulged in firing at Mizoram-Assam border Saipum village last night.

Lalzirliana informed the state assembly that Constable Lawrence Rochhunga and Constable Lalrinngheta, in an inebriated state fired around 20 rounds of ammunition from their Self Loading Rifles (SLR) at their outpost at midnight last night.

The two constables, along with Havildar Thanglianmanga, acting Camp Commander, who failed to report the incident to his superior officers were suspended as they caused severe panic among the civilian populace of Saipum village.

Saipum village was being regarded as a sensitive village as it falls under the 'Demand area' of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) militants.
