Three PWD engineers were suspended and two others have been issued show-cause notices today in Uttarakhand in connection with the recent collapse of an under-construction bridge at Bajpur in Udham Singh Nagar district.

The officials placed under suspension with immediate effect are executive engineer G C Vishwakarma, assistant engineer J C Pantola and additional assistant engineer Deep Chandra Kandpal.

All of them were posted in PWD, Kashipur, an official release said here.

The suspension orders were issued by PWD Secretary Amit Negi against these officials after an inquiry conducted by him into the incident found them guilty of negligence in construction work.

Two of their colleagues B C Binwal and Gokarna Singh Pangti have been issued show-cause notices in connection with the bridge collapse, it said.

The action is in line with Chief Minister Harish Rawat's announcement that there will be no compromise on quality in construction work and any laxity on part of officials in this regard will be sternly dealt with.
