Police said the dispute started after Delhi Jal Board accorded a contract to a company for the removal of a sand island which had emerged in the area and was blocking the water from reaching the treatment plant at Wazirabad.
"The company, to which the contract was awarded, outsourced it to a local company which tied up with one Pramod Yadav. A tussle started between the local company and this Pramod as he wanted the removed sand to be sold to him while the company wanted it to sell it in the open market," said a police official.
Last night at around 9 PM, Pramod Yadav along with around 6 other persons called the other party for negotiations.
"Mahesh, Rahul, Rakesh, Pramod Yadav and Santbir reached near Jagatpur village to discuss the matter. Somehow, things didn't went as expected and snowballed into clash in which, associates of the first Pramod Yadav opened fire on the men from the second group," the official said.
Several rounds were fired by the first party, in which five persons including Pramod Yadav, Mahesh and Rahul of the second group sustained bullet injuries. The accused then dumped them in a nearby farm and fled the spot.
Someone then made a PCR call after which police reached the spot and rushed the injured to hospital. All the five injured are currently recuperating at Kailash hospital in Noida.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms act has been registered at Timarpur police station in this regard. Out of the 7 accused in the case, two persons identified as Naveen and Bhagat Singh alias Deva have been arrested, said DCP (North) Madhur Verma.
