Three stolen idols worth Rs 8 crore recovered, 3 held

Three stolen ashtdhatu and platinum idols worth Rs 8 crore were today recovered from Haldi area here and three persons have been arrested in this connection, police said.

On a tip-off, the idols of Ram, Lakshman and Sita stolen from a temple in Chhapra district of Bihar in 2012 were recovered from three persons, Superintendent of Police KC Goswami said.

Among the three idols, one of them weighs 40 kg and is of platinum while the other two are of ashdhatu weighing 30 kg each, Goswami said, adding, that these idols are worth Rs 8 crore.

Those arrested have been identified as Shiv Kumar, Shatrughan and Santosh Chaubey who had come to sell the idols here, he said.
 

The investigation is on and police is trying to elicit more information from them, he said.
