A three tier security would be provided at the counting centre here, for the November 19 assembly by-election from Nellithope segment, in which Chief Minister V Narayanasamy will be contesting, a top election official said today.

District Election Officer Satyendra Singh Durswat stated this after inspecting the Bharathidasan Government College for Women, the counting centre, along with officials of various departments.

The counting of votes would take place on November 22, he told reporters here.

The by-poll in Nellithope has become necessary following the resignation of Congress MLA A John Kumar to facilitate Narayanasamy, a non-member of the assembly to contest the poll to become an elected member.

For all practical purposes the constituency will witness a straight fight between ruling Congress and AIADMK.

AIADMK has fielded former party MLA from the same constituency, Om Sakthi Segar.

Segar had held Nellithope seat twice consecutively in the polls held in 2006 and 2011.

Meanwhile, returning officer for the constituency G Malarkannan said all steps were taken to ensure free and fair election.

The election authorities would take speedy action as soon as violation of model code of conduct has been identified anywhere in the constituency, he said in a release here.

A control room had been set up with phone connections, e mail and website facilities for the people to lodge complaints of violation of model code of conduct.
