Superintendent of Police (Jail) Michi Paku today informed that the trio escaped by scaling the 18 feet high security wall after sneaking out through the ceiling of the bathroom, adjacent to the cell where they were kept.
"They used blankets, mosquito nets and bandage cotton to climb the wall with the help of a wooden log which was suspected to be brought by outsiders," Jailer Radhe Olley disclosed.
He however, admitted security lapse as the main reason for the incident and informed that the guards on duty would face departmental inquiry and disciplinary action would be initiated against them.
A case has been registered and manhunt launched to nab the trio.
The accused namely Mazibur Rahman, Budh Ram Nayak and Farook Islam were hardcore criminals lodged in the jail since the last several years. While Rahman and Nayak were facing trial for murdering two Monpa girls at Ganga Market here during 2008, Islam was involved in several cases of thefts.
All the three hail from Lakhimpur district in the neighbouring Assam.
