Three undertrials kill constable, escape

Three under trials escaped today after killing a constable and injuring five others near village Maiserkhana in the district while they were being brought back from a Panchkula court, police said.

The three undertrials Jasvinder singh, Kulvinder Singh (both brothers) and Nahar Singh had gone to Panchkula court for their hearing with six policemen, they said.

On their way back the accused purchased red chili powder on the pretext of purchasing ration from Bhai Bhakhtaur and when they reached Maiserkhana, they allegedly conspired to flee, police said.

They snatched a gun from constable Mandeep Singh and fired, killing head constable Avtar Singh and threw chili powder in the eyes of the others before escaping from the police vehicle, they said.
 

Mandeep Singh, Manoj, Nirmal Singh, Tirlochan Singh and Jasvir Singh were injured, they said.

The three undertrials from village Jai Singh Wala in Bathinda are facing charges of attempt to murder which is registered at Jabbar in Rajasthan and were lodged in Bathinda Jail, they said.

The district police has rounded up the area and launched a search operation to nab the accused.

SSP Ravcharan Singh Brar said that the matter is being investigated and the accused shall be nabbed soon.
