Three women, said to be AAP volunteers, were arrested today for allegedly assaulting a Delhi Police head constable and tearing his uniform during a protest outside Sangam Vihar police station against the arrest of party MLA Prakash Jarwal.

Those arrested have been identified as Aguvai Sunder (25), Seema Beniwal (25) and Punita Jha (39). All of them are residents of Sangam Vihar, police said.

Several AAP volunteers had gathered outside the police station today to stage a protest against Jarwal's arrest who is accused of assaulting a Delhi Jal Board engineer.

Claiming that the DJB engineer had filed a false case, the protestors demanded registration of an FIR against Kumar.

At around 2:30 PM, things turned violent when head constable Virendra went to the protesters to speak to them.

"Without any provocation the three women, who were leading the protesters beat him up and tore his dress," said a police official.

The head constable was soon rescued by women police officials who also took the three attackers into custody.

Virendra was sent for a medical examination after the assault.

A case under sections of obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty, assault or use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and for acts done by several persons with a common intention was registered against the trio and they were arrested, police said.
