Three persons stated to be activists of Youth Congress were taken into custody today in connection with the attack on the residence of Catholic Bishop house at Idukki, police said.

Hurling of crackers at the house of bishop Mathew Anikuzhikattil late last night is seen as a sequel to the political stand taken by him against the ruling UDF over the Kasturirangan report for preservation of Western Ghats.

Following the attack, in which no one was injured, security has been tightened for the Bishop's house, police said.

Catholic church in the local area had openly given support to the LDF independent Joice George, who won the polls defeating Congress candidate and State Youth Congress President Dean Kuriakose.

Mathew Anikuzhikattil said that 'some people were not happy with the stand taken by us during the polls'.

Meanwhile, KPCC President V M Sudheeran directed Idukki District Congress Committee President to take stern action against any Congressmen involved in the incident.
