The alleged harassment of BJP MLA Rajkumar Thukral by the state government echoed once again in Uttarakhand Assembly today with the Opposition insisting he was innocent and being framed under a conspiracy in the Rudrapur communal riots.

BJP's Rudrapur MLA Rajkumar Thukral has been absconding ever since an NBW was issued against him in connection with a case related to the communal riots of Rudrapur in 2011.

Initiating a debate in the House on the issue, Leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt said the first FIR lodged in connection with the case does not even mention the MLA.

"It clearly states that one Jaqui Ahmed was shot dead by one Irshad Ahmed. But a supplementary FIR lodged in the case seven months later mentions the MLA's name saying it was he who shot dead Jaqui Ahmed," Bhatt said.

Ascribing political motives to the FIR, Bhatt said it was part of a conspiracy to tarnish the MLA's name and finish him politically.

"Not only that, his property was attached and a reward of Rs 2,500 was also announced for anyone giving information on his whereabouts as if he were a habitual offender," he said demanding something must be done to protect the honour of the MLA.

BJP had created a ruckus over the issue in the Assembly on the opening day of the budget session forcing several adjournments as it insisted on withdrawal of the case against Thukral.
