Thunder squall hits Bihar, 6 die

With Bihar still grappling with the large scale devastation and loss of lives in cyclonic storm followed by quake, a thunder squall today hit the state claiming six lives.

While three persons died of lightning in Lakhisarai district, two children perished in Muzaffarpur as a girl died in Nalanda district, officials said.

Due to inclement weather Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's programme in Raxual had to be rescheduled as he cancelled travel by air and left for the town on the Indo-Nepal border by road, the Chief Minister's Office said.

Director, State Meteorological Department A K Sen said the thunder squall was due to cyclonic circulation arising from Bay of Bengal formed near Jharkhand.
 

He said an alert has been sent to the state government about the thunder squall and of moderate rainfall in almost half of the districts of Bihar till April 30.
