Thunderstorm hits power supply in Ghaziabad

Press Trust of India Ghaziabad
Residents of Ghaziabad are facing a week of irregular power supply with electricity department officials saying that they would need seven days to repair the damage caused to transmission lines in yesterday's thunderstorm.

Most areas of Ghaziabad have had to make do with only three to four hours of electricity in the last 24 hours as transmission towers and power lines were widely affected in the thunderstorms.

Electricity department officials said that the supply would be back on line in most parts of the city by tomorrow night although, with repairs continuing, some areas may face 12-14 hour-long outages over the next few days.

Strong winds yesterday caused widespread damage to the power supply mechanism, resulting, among others, in the collapse of two towers joining the 400kV Muradnagar sub-station to the 220kV Sahibabad sub-station.
