The Congress said Thursday that by fielding Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, the BJP has shown that it is not serious about national security.

The BJP Wednesday announced candidature of Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, from Bhopal. Her main rival in the election is Congress veteran Digvijay Singh.

"Though the court has dropped charges against her under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, she still faces trial under other anti-terrorism laws (in the blast case)," Congress spokesperson Ratnakar Mahajan said here.

"The BJP, which levels baseless allegations against the Congress that it is not serious about national security, itself has shown it is not being serious about national security by fielding Pragya Singh who toyed with national security," Mahajan said in a statement.
