Israel today said India's support to a UN Human Rights Council resolution to launch a probe into its offensive on Gaza will not affect "strong" ties between the two countries.

"We are disappointed over the resolution in the UN Human Rights Council. But ties between Israel and India are strong and will continue to be strong," a Spokesperson at the Israeli Embassy here told PTI.

India along with BRICS countries yesterday voted in support of the UNHRC resolution to launch a probe into Israel's offensive on Gaza that has taken lives of over 700 people.

India joined Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa to vote for a Palestinian-drafted resolution on "Ensuring Respect for international law in The Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem".

In the 47-member council, 29 countries voted in support of the resolution while 17 nations abstained.

The US was the only nation to vote against the resolution. European countries abstained.

Earlier, India had asked Israel and Palestine to demonstrate political will to agree to a ceasefire and return to the negotiating table.

The conflict has killed over 770 Palestinians and 34 Israelis so far.

Describing UNHCR as a "kangaroo court", Israel slammed the move as a "travesty".
