Tiff during cricket match costs teen his life

A teenage boy died today after being allegedly attacked with a bat by a rival team player over a quarrel on who should bat first in a local cricket match here, police said.

17-year old Kalipandi died without responding to treatment at a hospital here where he was admitted in an unconscious condition after the incident at the Villapuram Housing Board Ground here on Wednesday.

Acording to Police, boys in the locality used to play cricket in the ground during morning and evening hours.

A quarrel erupted between Kalipandi, an Industrial Training Institute student, and his rival team members during a match over the petty issue of who should bat first. One of the rival team members hit him on the back of the head with a bat following which he collapsed.
 

Doctors said the boy did not respond to the treatment and died today.

Police said further investigations in the incident were on.
