The one-year-old cub was transported in a special parcel van of a train on Saturday to travel 2100 km from Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) to Nandan Zoo in Raipur.
Two animal keepers and as many forest guards were on duty for its safety, CWRC veterinarian Abhijit Bhawal told PTI today.
The big cat was in good health and checked for diseases and parasites before its journey, he said.
Bhawal, along with two others, raised the cub after it was rescued by forest guards from Nirimihiting under Burapahar range of Kaziranga on October 21 last year.
Assam Forest Department, helped by International Fund for Animal Welfare-Wildlife Trust of India (IFAW-WTI), had made attempts to reunite the cub with its mother by keeping it in a temporary shelter at the rescue site for four days since its rescue, but failed, Kaziranga National Park Director and CWRC Project Leader Sanjib Kumar Bora said.
This is the second tiger sent outside Assam from the CWRC after a 22-year old tiger was sent last year to Van Vihar Zoo in Bhopal. A rescued elephant was also sent to Chhattisgarh earlier.
At present, CWRC has 45 rescued animals.
