However, number of cubs is yet to be ascertained.

The area is adjacent to Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

"Following information about the birth of cubs in a cane field, we visited the area and inspected the spot," said today P K Tewari, range officer, Pallia of north Kheri.

However, the tigress disappeared with newborn cubs to some other place, the officer said.

Tewari said, "there were evidences of presence of the big cat and its cubs in the field near Lahdahan village."

"For their safety, the harvesting of the sugarcane crop has been postponed," he said.

The birth of tiger cubs came to light when owner of the field, Netram, entered into it, he said.

The large spans of cane fields around the DTR and north Kheri reserve forests provide a safe hideout to the felines outside the protected areas.

The cane fields also attract wild boars, which fall prey to the big cats. So the tigers come to the cane fields for food and a safe shelter.

However, things become volatile when harvesting season starts from October to November every year.
