A tiger killed one woman

when she went for fishing in the Kardaha canal at Tirkhali jungle of Sajnekhali of South 24 Parganas district today, forest department officials said.

Kalpana Mondal (45), a resident of Rajat Jubilee village, was attacked by a tiger when she along with two others went for fishing in the Kardaha canal this morning, they said.

They went for fishing in a small boat and while fishing a tiger attacked Kalpana from behind and fled with her body in its grasp, forest department officials said.

The two women, who accompanied her to the fishing, tried to chase the tiger but could not locate it nor Kalpana inside Tirkhali jungle, they said.

We have initiated a search programme for Kalpana but any hope of her survival is far fetched, one forest department official said.
