Tiger skin seized in Mumbra, one held

Police have seized tiger skin from a 44-year-old man in Mumbra in Thane district of Maharashtra, an officer said on Wednesday.

The estimated price of the seized item is Rs 10 lakh in illegal markets.

"Officials of Crime Unit I, Thane, laid a trap near Mumbra on Tuesday evening and nabbed one Sashikant Dandavate," said police inspector Nitin Thakre.

Police found the tiger skin in the bag carried by the accused.

Dandavate, who hails from Kagal in Kolhapur district, around 380 kms from here, has been booked under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Further investigation is underway.
