Around 1,000 cops will be deployed to oversee the security during the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be held here beginning tomorrow, a senior official said.

The matches will be held at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium on the outskirts of the city.

42 CCTV cameras have been installed at various places in and around the stadium to monitor movement of vehicles and visitors, DCP (Crime) T Ravi Kumar Murthy said today.

Two command and control rooms have been set up at the stadium to monitor the CCTV footage. Adequate parking arrangements are being made by the traffic police, he added.

Vizag will be hosting six matches and the first match will be held here between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The IPL Governing Council had decided to have Visakhapatnam as the common main venue for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants in the wake of Supreme Court dismissing the plea of Maharashtra and Mumbai Cricket Associations against the Bombay High Court order directing shifting of IPL matches outside the drought-hit state.
