A tigress slipped out of her enclosure at the Kamla Nehru Zoo today when her cage was opened for carrying out some repair work, an official said.

This is the second time in the last fortnight that the same tigress, Jamuna, managed to step out of the enclosure. This episode has raised question mark over the security at the zoo.

The feline did not harm anyone and she was pushed into another cage within half an hour, the official said adding that the zoo is kept shut for visitors on Mondays.

"Jamuna slipped out her enclosure when it was opened for some repair work. This has happened for the second time in a fortnight. This time, the employees forced her into another enclosure within half an hour with the help of sticks and after giving instructions to her," Zoo In-charge, Uttam Yadav told reporters.

"Since the tigress understands and obeys the instructions given by her caretakers, the need to use a tranquiliser did not arise. The feline did not harm anyone," he said.

On November 27, Jamuna had come out of her enclosure by jumping over the fence, creating panic in the zoo.

It is a strange coincidence that today the incident took place just when the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) officials were recording the statements of zoo employees over the November 27 episode.

IMC Commissioner Manish Singh said a similar incident happening for the second time within a fortnight indicates the "abnormal behaviour" of the feline.

Last time, the animal had escaped from the front side of the enclosure, while this time she chose the rear side.

"The enclosure is being secured from both the sides. We are also putting up CCTV cameras to keep an eye on the activities of the tigress round the clock," he said.
