Tihar inmates to get training in various skills under PMKVY

About 1200 inmates of Tihar prison complex will learn employable skills in various fields such as BPO, retail sales and computer hardware under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna(PMKVY) which was launched today in the mega jail.

"In the first phase of the project, two training partners identified by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, will train 1200 inmates in various skills such as BPO, retail sales, computer hardware, trainee chef and beauty wellness among others," said Additional IG (Prison) Mukesh Prasad.

The project was launched in the jail number 4 of Tihar in presence of DG (Prisons) Alok Kumar Verma and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development, Pawan Kumar Aggarwal.
 

The trainee inmates on completion of the skill courses will be provided a certificate which will help them in finding a suitable job after their release, Agarwal said.

The trained inmates may also get loan facility under 'Pradhan Mantri Mudra Bank Yojna, which will help them to set up their own business as self employment, he added.

The DG (Prisons) Alok Verma hoped that the initiative will serve as a role model for other prisons in the country.
