Filmmaker Tim Story is set to direct New Line's upcoming "Shaft" reboot.
John Davis, Ira Napoliello and "Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris are producing the project, reported The Wrap.
Barris has also written the script with Alex Barnow.
MGM's original "Shaft," a 1971 blaxploitation film with Richard Roundtree as private detective John Shaft and a soundtrack provided by legendary crooner Isaac Hayes, took in USD 13 million at the box office on an estimated USD 500,000 budget.
A sequel starring Samuel L Jackson in the lead role released in 2000. It opened atop the box office and took in USD 107 million worldwide on an estimated USD 46 million budget.
