As the countdown begins for Durga and her progenies, a big budget city puja has themed its celebrations on the Soumitro Chatterjee-starrer Bengali classic Tin Bhubaner Parey on the 100 years of India cinema.

"Is there anybody among present day Bengalis having not heard about 'Tin Bhubaner Pare', starring Soumitra and Tanuja. We wish to rekindle the nostalgia of the elderly pandal hopper and initiate the present day youth to the treasured celluloid culture of Tollygunje which played a glorious part in the 100 year journey of our films," Sudip of 'Barisha Bondhusree', one of the mega budget pujas having won the coveted 'Asian Paints Sarad Samman', said.

With celebrated pandal-themer Bhabatosh Sutar, instrumental in fetching awards for all unique big budget pujas in recent times chipping in for Bondhusree for the second successive year, the brass and wooden plank replica was unveiled on the ccasion.

"Last year our theme decor of Bangladeshi cycle rickshaw struck a chord with both pandal-hoppers and the award panel critics," pujo organiser Pappu Halder said.

"Kolkata puja is getting more innovative by day. Pity that does not get reflected in our films the way the Ganapati festival, immersions and celebrations come up in Hindi flicks." Byomkesh actor Abir Chatterjee said.

Told about the unique plan of tin-bhubaner pare - Abir said so much creative effort, the aesthetic urge to score over others and win hearts, should be reflected the way it is on celluloid.

"I hope we can again repeat last year's magic," Sutar, whose team of craftsmen are already at work, said.

In Baguihati in the northern flanks, some distance away, another team is at work to recreate Debolok at the Mukti Sangho pujo, where earth and imaginary heaven will be recreated.
