Tiranga Yatra rally flagged-off

A 'Tiranga Yatra' rally was today flagged-off at the Sainik School at Kazhakootam here as part of the country's 70th independence day celebrations.

The rally, being held under the aegis of Sports Authority of India, was flagged-off by Governor P Sathasivam, at a function held at the school.

State Power and Devaswom Minister Kadakampalli Surendran, presided.

Air Vice Marshal G Amar Prakash, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration, HQ Southern Air Command were among those present.

The function was organised to instill a spirit of nationalism and to create awareness among the youth about the contribution of freedom fighters who fought for freedom from the British rule.
 

The yatra commenced from Sainik School and ended at Lakshmibai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariyavattam.

Hundreds of participants representing various Schools, NCC, Kerala Police, Army, Navy, CRPF and trainees from LNCPE participated in the rally.

The Governor inaugurated the rally by handing over the tricolour to former world amateur boxing champion KC Lekha and D Biju, Arjuna awardee and an ace badminton player who in turn led the rally.
