Tirupati to host World Telugu Conference in December

The state-sponsored event is being organised in Andhra Pradesh after a long gap of 37 years.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy held discussions here today with some of his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials on the arrangements for the prestigious conference, to be held from December 27 to 29.

They agreed to release Rs 25 crore for organising the event on a grand scale.

"Promotion of Telugu language and culture is the state government's responsibility," a press release from the Chief Minister's Office, quoting Kiran Kumar, said.

Eminent Telugu people who have made a mark in different spheres of life would be invited from all over the world to the conference.

 

Cultural conferences would be held in all districts of AP in September to highlight the significance of the WTC and motivate widespread participation of people in the event, the CMO release added.

The Chief Minister will write to the Government of India seeking release of a postal stamp to commemorate the 4th World Telugu Conference.

The 1st World Telugu Conference was held for a week in Hyderabad in April, 1975.
