A court in nearby Tirupur today sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his younger brother over a property dispute and concocting a story that he was killed in an accident there in 2015.

Judge M K Jamuna awarded the life sentence to convict Manoharan for murdering his brother Madan Kumar.

The prosecution case was that Manoharan, a knitwear company worker, had murdered his 32-year-old brother Madankumar over a property dispute and convinced his family that he had died in an accident on August 23, 2015, following which the body was buried.

Suspecting foul play in the death, Madankumar's wife lodged a complaint, based on which the body was exhumed two days later for postmortem.

Later, it was revealed that he was murdered.

During interrogation, Manoharan had confessed to the crime.
