The widow of the former Yugoslav dictator Josip Broz Tito will be buried next to him in a Belgrade mausoleum, Serbian officials said today a day after her death.

The funeral of Jovanka Broz, who died of heart failure at the age of 88, will be held October 26 at noon (1530 IST) in the House of Flowers, where the communist strongman was laid to rest in 1980, a government committee said in a statement.

Decorated as a member of the Yugoslav anti-fascist partisan movement in World War II, she will be buried with full military honours, the statement said.

Suspected by Tito's political friends of plotting a coup, Jovanka Broz was placed under virtual house arrest a few years before her husband's death in 1980.

Her last public appearance was at Tito's state funeral in May 1980.

After his death she was forced to leave the former Serbian royal palace where the couple lived in splendour, and spent the following three decades in isolation and poverty.

The couple had no children.
