The Trinamool Congress today asked its ministers to refrain from becoming members of the party's trade union, in an apparent attempt to put a leash on a section of leaders interfering in the affairs of the trade union.

"It has been decided that no minister will henceforth hold either any post or membership of the party's trade union units across the state," state parliamentary affairs minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters.

According to TMC sources, the decision was taken on the basis of an internal report that said work and growth of the trade union was getting hampered due to presence of ministers.

"At times it was giving rise to internal feuds within the party and trade union," said a TMC leader.

With this decision of the party, top TMC ministers, including Purnendu Bose, Sovandeb Chattopadhay, Malay Ghatak and others will have to give up their membership of AITMC trade union- AITTUC.
