TMC councillor remanded to police custody till April 17

Trinamool Congress councillor Sambhunath Kow , prime accused in March 20 violence that led to the death of a party supporter at Mathpukur, was today remanded in police custody till April 17 by a court here.

Family members of Adhir Maity, the slain Trinamool Congress supporter, demonstrated before the Alipore court and demanded that Kow, who was arrested on April 4 from Balia district in Uttar Pradesh, be punished.

Kow, on the run since the violence, had earlier taken refuge in Odisha and Jharkhand. He was brought here on transit remand by train and interrogated at the Lalbazar police headquarters.
 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered his arrest.
