TMC demonstrate outside Tripura CM's residence on women's

Trinamool Congress organised a protest demonstration outside the official residence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar here, demanding immediate arrest of a senior state official accused of rape.

Tripura Civil Service officer Panna Ahmed had been suspended on June 28 after an FIR was lodged against him alleging that he had raped a woman of minority community a few days back, police sources said.

According to the FIR lodged by the woman, she was raped when she went to Ahmed's residence in South Ramnagar on June 27 morning. He even threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.
 

The TMC demonstrators demanded arrest of Ahmed, Deputy Director of Sports and youth department, who was reportedly absconding.

The protesters also raised slogans against the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, alleging he failed to ensure safety and security to women in the state.

TMC youth leader Sushanta Choudhury told reporters, "The Manik Sarkar government in Tripura has not only failed in providing security to women, but also helping the culprits.
