A local leader of Trinamool Congress was hacked to death at Nayagram in West Midnapore district, police said today.
Subhas Das, president of TMC's Nayagram 7 no. Anchal, reached home late last night from an invitation.
He received a phone and went out again, telling his wife that he would be back shortly, police said.
However, he did not return and his body was found this morning. His motorbike was also found there.
It was found that he was hit on the head with a sharp weapon, police said.
Local TMC leaders blamed BJP for the murder but the saffron party denied the charges saying the killing was a result of TMC factional fighting.
