TMC leader involved in Malda firing suspended from party

Trinamool Congress leader and Sabhapati of English Bazar Panchayat Samiti, Pabitra Roy, who was arrested for allegedly firing from his vehicle in Malda, which killed two persons, has been suspended from the party.

"Swift action. Law is equal for all. Trinamool panchayat member in Malda who allegedly opened fire suspended from party. Arrested Sunday night," Trinamool Congress said in a statement.

Two persons were shot dead when some persons, fleeing in a car that fatally hit a cyclist, opened fire on a mob chasing them at Kulipara in Malda district yesterday, the police had said.

While 18-year-old Asim Mondal died on the spot after being hit by a bullet, his critically injured teenaged friend Rahul Paswan died on the way to a Kolkata hospital, a senior police officer had said adding Roy, who was using the vehicle, has been arrested.
 

Meanwhile, Roy, who was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Prabir Kumar Roy's court today amid tight security, was remanded to three days police custody.
