After Mukherjee seized the answer script and the piece of paper from which the student was allegedly cheating, she left the room.

Shortly afterwards, a group of outsiders, all workers of the TMC, arrived and demanded that her copy be returned, the sources said.
When that demand was rejected, the outsiders assaulted Mukherjee and two other teachers, including a woman, the principal alleged.
The attackers also ransacked the principal's chamber.
Police said they received a telephone call about the incident from the college authorities but no written complaint was lodged till 7 pm.
Mukherjee, however, said the written complaint was being prepared and it would be filed soon.
The incident occurred on the same day when Trinamool Congress president and state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked Trinamool student wing members that they should not take law into their own hands.
"Behave responsibly so that people can differentiate between you and those belonging to the CPI(M) and other parties," she told a meeting of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad in Kolkata.
